Short answer: you can no longer buy Sora 2 through OpenAI's API. OpenAI's deprecations page lists the Videos API, sora-2 and sora-2-pro for removal on September 24, 2026.
Many pricing pages still describe Sora 2 as if nothing changed. Here is what it cost, what to watch out for, and what you can use instead.
What Sora 2 used to cost
OpenAI's own price pages for Sora are no longer the reliable source, so the figures below come from third-party reports published before the shutdown. Treat them as historical.
| Model | Size | Reported API price |
|---|---|---|
| sora-2 | 720p | $0.10 per second |
| sora-2-pro | 720p | $0.30 per second |
| sora-2-pro | 1024-wide | $0.50 per second |
| sora-2-pro | 1080p | $0.70 per second |
At those rates, a 10-second 720p clip cost about $1 on sora-2, and a 10-second 1080p clip cost about $7 on sora-2-pro.
What about the Sora 2 subscription price?
Reports describe Sora access through ChatGPT Plus at $20 a month and ChatGPT Pro at a higher tier, each with a credit allowance. Sources disagree on the final details and on the date the consumer app ended, with one reporting April 26, 2026. Because OpenAI's help article was not accessible to us, we cannot confirm those details. Check your own OpenAI account for what your plan includes today.
Be careful with "Sora 2" offers now
If a site still sells Sora 2 access after September 24, 2026, ask what it actually runs. A site cannot get the model from OpenAI's API after the removal date. Before you pay, check who operates the site and which model you will really get.
What to use instead

| Longer single scenes | Kling 4.0 | Up to 30 seconds, 7 credits per second at 720p |
| An all-in-one editing workflow | Gemini Omni | 3 credits per second at 720p and 1080p |
These are Veo3 AI prices as of November 6, 2026. The exact cost is shown before you generate.
How to move your Sora prompts
- Start with one prompt you liked in Sora.
- Keep the subject, setting and camera direction, and remove anything specific to Sora.
- Generate a short clip first, because each model reads prompts differently.
- Adjust one thing at a time before you render a final version.
